Songdo Beach Festival: Yeonsu-gu’s Signature Summer Festival with Newtro and Water Fun

Songdo Beach Festival is Yeonsu-gu’s signature summer festival where visitors can enjoy water fun along with Newtro programs. Reviving the memories of the old Songdo Amusement Park, Yeonsu-gu successfully brought back the ‘2023 4th New Songdo Beach Festival’ after a five-year hiatus. The festival saw nearly 30,000 visitors in its first three days, a significant achievement given the relatively short preparation and promotion period.

Starting on June 29 last year, under the theme of ‘A Symphony of Light and Water,’ the festival attracted families with its various water play facilities, including an artificial beach and children’s water play zones. The opening ceremony featured performances by popular acts like Zatapun and trot singer Kim Soo-chan, drawing in large crowds. Exhibitions and hands-on booths also garnered significant attention.

The festival featured various programs aimed at reviving past memories. LED campfire installations on the beach recreated the nostalgic feel of traditional campfires, while storytelling programs like ‘Our Neighborhood Game Master’ were highlights. Prioritizing safety, this festival was the first to apply the newly introduced risk assessment system in the field of industrial safety to a festival setting.

Running until July 6, the festival offered numerous activities from 11 AM to 6 PM daily, including water play experiences, an artificial beach, and recreated facilities from the old Songdo Amusement Park. This year, the 5th New Songdo Beach Festival will be held from August 10 to August 15, promising to be another highlight. The festival will feature various recreational and hands-on programs in areas like the children’s water play zone, artificial beach, and camp-nick zone (camping + picnic). The Newtro zone will offer retro games that bridge generations, reviving memories of the old Songdo Amusement Park.

After enjoying the Songdo Beach Festival, visitors are encouraged to explore Yeonsu-gu’s dining scene. There are numerous excellent restaurants, including the Korean restaurant ‘260 Degrees Songdo Amusement Park Branch,’ ‘Woopan Deungsim,’ and the Western restaurant ‘Oakwood Premier Incheon Oak Restaurant,’ which can further enhance the festival experience.
