The Daegu Chimaek Festival is a premier cultural tourism festival held every summer in Daegu, South Korea, the heart of the nation’s chicken industry. This festival celebrates the delicious combination of chicken and beer (chimaek) with a variety of attractions and activities.

Historical Background

Daegu began its poultry industry after the Korean War to provide diverse meats to the public. The city saw the rise of numerous chicken brands in the 1970s and 1980s, including Mexicana, Mexi-Chicken, and Cheogajip Seasoned Chicken. Today, well-known brands like Kyochon Chicken, Daegu Tongdak, and Ttang Ttang Chicken have strong ties to Daegu, a city that leads in the cultural network centered around chicken and beer.
